Push yourself this New Year

2019 has arrived and the ‘New Year, new you’ fitness goals are already spreading across social media, but what are your resolutions for the year ahead? Take charge of your lifestyle and make 2019 the year to show what you're made of.

New challenges, new goals

Deciding what your goal is could be as simple as saying “I want to lose weight”, or deciding you want to strengthen a particular part of your body. It’s important to make your goals as realistic and manageable as possible. Aiming to get a six pack/bikini body or training for a 5k run will seem exciting at first, however, these long-term goals can soon become frustrating or boring if you only see little improvements in the short term.

A way to manage this expectation is to break these goals up into small chunks. By doing so, you’ll feel like you’re achieving something as you progress towards your final goal, and you’ll also feel more motivated to carry on.

Stay motivated!

There are many ways you can stay motivated past January. Joining fitness classes or attempting a fitness challenge can keep things exciting by mixing up your daily routines. Getting yourself a gym partner can also turn the graft of going to the gym into a social catch up, making activities more fun. You can even spice things up by adding in some friendly competition.

Make sure the goals you set are not solely focused on aesthetics, but instead to improve your daily lifestyle. It's important to not be too hard on yourself. If you need an extra day off during the week or fancy a treat then do it, your mental health is just as important as your physical. Finding a balance between treating yourself and maintaining your fitness will boost your mentality, and allow you to stay consistent with your training rather than falling off the bandwagon due to thoughts of self-doubt.

Whatever your goals are, you can get the right fitness and nutrition plans set out for you. From 30-day yoga challenges to 90-day ab challenges, the length, difficulty, and type of exercise are totally in your hands. Don’t be afraid to try something new and remember to enjoy yourself!

What are the benefits?

Why should you make 2019 the year to change? Improving your general health and wellbeing to benefit your daily lifestyle is a huge reason. It could mean you have more energy to play with your grandchildren, or have the strength and stability to confidently go shopping on your own.

If you’re recovering from an injury, I’m sure you know this can be a slow and difficult process. So why not get some extra help to boost your attitude and get you back on your feet? When you start thinking less about the weights and reps, and more on the positive outcomes from training, the whole process will feel much more rewarding.
